Our Company
In 2024, Premier proudly celebrates its 200-year birthday. Founded in 1824, Premier has a rich history of producing heritage staple food brands. Since 2011, Premier has enjoyed an exciting new journey following Brait's acquisition of a majority shareholding. A strategy to transform and diversify from traditional staple foods and broaden our footprint in the FMCG market was pursued. In March 2021, Kobus Gertenbach was appointed as CEO.
Since 2011, we have invested over R6 billion in our state-of-the-art facilities and executed several acquisitions to expand our portfolio from a traditional milling and bakery business into sugar confectionery (Super C, Mister Sweet and Manhattan) and home & personal care (Lil-lets, Dove Cottons and Vulco). We also expanded our bakery portfolio through the acquisition of bakeries in the Eastern and Western Cape. Our acquisition strategy in the rest of Africa has expanded our portfolio in Eswatini to include bakery, milling and beverage operations, and in Mozambique to include milling, biscuits, animal feeds and pasta operations.
The business has an annual turnover of R18.6 billion employing over 8 600 employees in various operations. Premier operates 13 bakeries, 7 wheat mills, 3 maize mills, and manufacturing plants across the region producing a broad range of sugar confectionery products, feminine hygiene products, biscuits, animal feeds, pasta and mageu. These products are distributed to our customers via 28 distribution depots situated in South Africa, Eswatini, Mozambique and Lesotho. Premier also has a Lil-Lets sales office situated in the UK that exports into the Middle East, Ireland, the US and other EU markets.
Our products and people make a difference in the everyday lives of our consumers to fulfil our commitment of Growing Together.
