Our Company

Founded in 1820 with a rich history spanning more than 195 years, Premier is entering a new and exciting period in our journey. In July 2014 we moved into our new corporate offices in Waterfall City just north of Johannesburg.

The past two years have seen a series of changes whereby Premier expanded from the traditional milling and baking business into sugar confectionery with brands such as Manhattan and Super C as well as home and personal care with brands such as Lil-Lets, Dove cotton wool and Vulco. We are executing our strategic intent to be a leading FMCG player in chosen geographies.

Our mission is to provide innovative, branded and private label solutions in partnership with our customers and consumers in the fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector via defined routes to market. This will be achieved through organic and acquisitive opportunities in chosen geographies. Our success is measured by our profitability and also by our ability to reinvent ourselves through our innovative products and leading brands.

The business has an annual turnover of over R9 billion and employs over 7000 people in our various operations. Following recent acquisitions, Premier operates 16 bakeries, 5 wheat mills, 2 maize mills, a sugar confectionery plant and 24 distribution depots situated in South Africa, Swaziland and Lesotho and has a Lil-Lets sales office based in the UK.

In July 2011, Brait – an investment holding company whose shares are listed on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange and the JSE – successfully transitioned from a private equity fund manager to investment holding company. At this time, Brait increased its shareholding from 49.9% of Premier to the current 90% shareholding and subsequently appointed Tjaart Kruger to the position of CEO.

The fulfilment of our strategy will see EBITDA from acquisitions grow from 0% in 2011 to 36% in 2018.
